This was the scene at sunset 28 June 2011. The winds were severe all afternoon as I drove through western Kansas into Colorado. By the time I got to the valley by the Dunes, the winds were so bad, and so much sand was blowing, that it was impossible to stand outside without goggles. This image was captured through the window of my cabin.
